Organica will supply its Food Chain Reactor (FCR) solution for the turn-key project which will be built by Organica’s partner, Nijhuis Industries. The treatment facility is for the world’s largest furniture retailer and will treat 1,000 m3/day of wastewater from a high-profile shopping center in Russia. The integration of Organica’s FCR Solution with Nijhuis’ advanced pre-and post-treatment technologies will purify the influent wastewater up to very strict standards for pristine river water discharge.
With the Organica FCR Solution at the heart of the facility, the new wastewater treatment plant will have no odor and will appear as a botanical garden to ensure seamless integration within the mall complex, including a visitor’s center that is open to the public.
The pre-treatment solution will leverage Nijhuis’ screening and Dissolved Air Flotation units and will remove the large particles from the wastewater prior to entering the Organica FCR. After the secondary treatment through the FCR – the core of the biological process – Nijhuis CarboPure and Ultra Violet disinfection units will polish the effluent further to meet the stringent Russian discharge requirements. The excess sludge will be treated with a Nijhuis Drum Filter and Screw Press.
About the FCR Solution
Organica Water developed a highly imaginative approach to wastewater treatment for urban areas. Our facilities utilize active biofilms on natural (plant) and/or engineered root structures, all housed in a fully-enclosed, odorless facility.
Following primary treatment, the influent travels through the biological cascade, and in doing so the nutrient content is consumed by biofilm cultures that live on both the engineered (Organica’s proprietary biofiber media) and natural (plant roots) media in each reactor.
As a result of the cascade design the composition of the ecosystem fixed in the biofilm changes from reactor to reactor, adapting itself to the decreasing nutrient concentrations, thus maximizing the decomposition of contaminants and enabling Organica FCR WWTPs to treat wastewater in the least amount of space, using as little energy as possible.
About Organica Water
Organica Water is a global provider of innovative solutions for the treatment and recycling of wastewater. Over the past two decades Organica has enabled customers all over the world to address urban water challenges in a cost and resource efficient manner. Organica’s solutions are all founded on the fundamental belief that nature provides the most efficient means to treat municipal wastewater, offering significant cost savings compared to other solutions, and harmonious integration into modern, and quickly expanding urban centers.
Generally, when people think of wastewater treatment, they envision large concrete buildings located far from population centers, and big open basins emitting foul odors. The Organica FCR flips this idea upside-down, offering customers a compact, odorless, garden-like facility which produces a high-quality, reusable, effluent. The attractive look and feel of the Organica FCR further enhances this, as the facility can be used not just as a WWTP but also a scientific, educational, and recreational space for the community. This gives an Organica FCR utility far beyond just efficient wastewater treatment enabling it to be located virtually anywhere, which is why it was chosen for this critical project.
